Best DSLR Video Settings For Canon Cameras

Best DSLR Video Settings For Canon Cameras Tube. Duration : 3.42 Mins.

Guest post for Darren Rowse: www.digital-photography-school.com For more videos go to: www.learningDSLRVideo.com Transcription: ------------------- I get this question about once a week, "What are the Best Video Setting For The Canon DSLR cameras". So let me start off by eliminating two things you can take off the list. Those are aperture and ISO. Aperture, I really can't tell you what to set it on because it depends on the type of look you are going after. With a shallow depth of field or not. And the other one is ISO. ISO is kind of there for exposure how how you are going to set the exposure. I will say you do not want go too far north of let's say 1600 especially on like the Canon T2i then it gets really noisy. Obviously you are going to need to use aperture along with the ISO to get the right exposure but at least it gets you in the ball park. Those two ingredients are taken off the list. So the first I can tell you about what is on the list is shutter speed. Basically if you are going for a "filmic" look you are pretty much going to double your frame rate, so if you are shooting 24 frames per second you are going to want a 1/50th of a second shutter speed and if you are shooting at 60 frames per second you are going to go with 125th frames per second shutter speed. Now I will tell you it's just kind of a guideline and a rule but I have shot at much higher shutter speeds and it has worked wonderful, especially if you are shooting something like myself which is just ...

Few Facts Of Digital Cameras

A digital camera captures images in a digital format, unlike a conventional camera, which captures images using a photographic film.

Digital Camera

History:

Using a mosaic photosensor, Eugene F. Lally of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory first showed how still photos could be produced in a digital domain. An engineer at Eastman Kodak, Steve Sasson, used solid-state CCD chips to build a prototype digital camera having a resolution of 0.01 megapixel, and recorded black and white digital images to a magnetic cassette tape. With this prototype model, Steve took the first image in December of 1975 taking 23 seconds to capture it.

In 1988, Fuji DS-1P became the first digital camera that captured images as a computerized file. However, the camera never entered the U.S. market. In 1991, Kodak DCS-100 was the first commercially available digital camera, which used a 1.3 megapixel sensor. With the advancement of technology, modern digital cameras have become multifunctional and are now capable of capturing audio/video and still photographs.

Benefits:

1 - You get superior image quality. Digital cameras can offer good to excellent image resolution.

2 - You get a fair price. A digital camera is reasonably priced and is affordable.

3 - You can transfer the pictures to your laptop. You can easily connect the digital camera to your laptop and transfer the pictures in your hard disk.

4 - You can print in large sizes. Due to its high resolution, pictures can be printed in large sizes by any plotter.

5 - You can email the pictures to your friends. You can send the pictures by email to your loved ones.

6 - You can store the images in CDs or hard disk. Once the pictures are transferred from digital camera to the computer, permanent storage on a CD or hard disk is possible.

7 - You can take the camera in your pocket while you travel. The small size of the digital camera makes traveling with it easy and a pleasure.

8 - You can move in close to your subject. Zoom lenses offer close-ups of your subject with sharp focus. You can take very good close-ups of flowers, bugs, stamps, coins, etc.

9 - You can rework the image in a computer. Any photo editing software can rework the images taken.

10 - You can take good pictures even in low-light situations. Due to flexible over sensitivity or ISO equivalents, digital cameras can easily take detailed pictures even in low-light conditions.

11 - You can take quality still photos of moving objects. Sports and fashion photography can be easily accomplished due to the fast burst rate of digital cameras.

12 - You save money. There is no need of buying photographic films, developing them into negatives and positives. Moreover, the batteries are usually rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which last a long time.

13 - You can choose as per your needs and fancy. Many models are available like standard digital camera, underwater digital camera, waterproof digital camera, compact digital camera, and the professional digital camera.

Storage Media:

Digital cameras use memory to capture and store images. Some of the storages media used are onboard flash memory, 3.5" floppy disks, video floppy disk, PCMCIA hard drives, CD or DVD, CompactFlash memory cards, Microdrives, Memory Stick, SD/MMC, MiniSD Card, MicroSD Card, XD-Picture Card, SmartMedia, and FP Memory.

Power:

Digital cameras consume a lot of power, which is supplied by powerful, small in size batteries. Batteries are broadly divided into two groups, namely, off-the-shelf and proprietary. Off-the-shelf batteries are like AA, CR2, CR-V3, AAA, and RCR-V3. They are lithium-ion (Li-Ion) or Nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. Standard AA non-rechargeable alkaline batteries either do not work or work for only a very short time in most cameras.

Proprietary batteries are built as per the manufacturer`s custom specifications and are usually available as aftermarket replacement parts. Generally, lithium ion batteries are widely used as proprietary batteries for digital cameras.

Digital Cameras: How Many Pixels Do I Need?

With the bewildering number of digital cameras on the market, it's increasing difficult to know where to start for your first purchase. One of the major determining factors of the price of a digital camera is the number of pixels. Nowadays, even 5.0 megapixel cameras are affordable, even for casual snapshots.

But is bigger always better?

Higher megapixel cameras do have some drawback. The first, and most obvious, is price. A basic 5.0 megapixel camera currently runs between 0 and 0. A 1.2 megapixel camera can be had for less than . Storage for those large pictures will also cost you more. A 32 MByte memory card will hold around a hundred 1.2 megapixel pictures. This drops right down to around 60 pictures for 2.0 megapixels and to around 40 pictures for a 3.0 megapixel model. One other consideration, not often mentioned, is that a higher megapixel camera has to do more work to compress and store images, leading to longer waits between picture shots and viewing.

Before you rush off and spend 0 for a camera, consider what you will be doing with the pictures. Are you viewing them just on your computer? Sending them as email attachments? Printing them on an existing inkjet printer? Having them professionally printed?

The larger the number of pixels, the larger the file size. An important consideration if you are emailing them as attachments. The following chart shows sample file sizes, typical resolution and maximum print size for different pixel counts stored as high-quality JPEG files:

Pixels - - - File Size - - - Resolution - - - Print Size

1.2 - - - - - 480k - - - - - 1152 x 864 - - - - - 4 x 6 inches

2.0 - - - - - 980k - - - - - 1600 x 1200 - - - - 5 x 7 inches

3.0 - - - - - 1.2M - - - - - 2048 x 1536 - - - - 10 x 8 inches

5.0 - - - - - 2.3M - - - - - 2592 x 1944 - - - - 11 x 14 inches

Most computers will only display the 2.0 megapixel image (at most) without scrolling, so you may find yourself resizing all your pictures - or not using the maximum resolution of your camera - if you have a 5.0 megapixel camera.

Only ever print pictures at 5 x 7, or only view them on a computer? Then a 2 megapixel may be enough for now. The prices will be lower next year if you want to upgrade later.

Obviously, the higher pixel cameras do have some advantages, especially when it comes to cropping and editing - and you know the salesman will want to sell you the best camera in the store - but I hope this information will help in making an informed decision.

Olympus Digital Cameras - From Microscopes To Cameras And Video Recorders

In 1919, Olympus was known for its advanced technology that went from its first microscope, the Asahi, to the cameras, digital players, and voice recorders of today.

Founded originally under the name of TakachihoSeisakusho, the name Olympus has now also become synonymous with top of the line voice recorders and accessories for the consummate businessman and attentive student.

Now, Olympus has combined this flare for voice recording electronics with the consumer's need for digital music players, with their line of digital voice recorders with music players

With the highest consumer vote of extreme popularity of all the Olympus lines of digital player/voice recorders, the Olympus WS-300M weighs in at only 1.6 ounces with LCD audio system built-in display. Its price ranges from 2.79 up to 9.99, with several online stores offering free shipping - such as buydig.com or Beach Camera.

A compact brush silver device, it is equipped with 256MB of internal memory, for up to 68 hours of recording time and stores up to 120 music tracks. It can plug directly into any PC or Mac, and then uploads or downloads files as chosen. The big seller for it is no cables, docking station, and no special software.

It is simply a mass storage device for music, dictation, images and data digital data files. No driver installation is necessary and its USB direct. The WS-300M is a high quality WMA/MP3 music playback function with WOW/SRS effect. It has a backlit, full dot, LCD display - with four recording modes (SHQ/HQ/SP/LP) and five folders for file management.

The second highest popular digital player and voice recorder that was chosen by the mainstream is the Olympus WS-320M. Basically the same as the WS-300M, it has the ability to store and play up to 266 songs, with the track and artist name on the LCD display. There is an average 277 hours of recording time, with a direct USB port link to upload or download immediately, and a built-in stereo microphone.

The real big difference between the two is the price: as stated above, the 300M has a price tag of 2.79-9.99, while the price tag of the 320M has a price tag of 9.99-9.99. There also seemed to be more merchants carrying the 300M (16) than the 320M (3) in the online stores.

The installed memory of the Olympus WS-300M is 256MB while the memory of the 320M is 1 GB. Both audio formats were WMA andMP3, with a USB interface, headphones, and microphone. Both had PC and Mac system compatibility. Neck straps are available on both devices, with a silver color on the 300M and black on the 320M. The power source for both is AAA type batteries, weighing .1 lbs, with dimensions of 3.7" x 1.5" x .4" for similar dimensions.

Olympus presents its WS-300M, WS-310M, and WS-320M for consumers needing more recording time with an easier transfer process. The WS-300M gives 68 hours of recording time and the ability to download approximately 66 songs, the WS-310M provides 138 hours of recording time and 132 songs, and the WS-320M is capable of recording 277 hours of audio while holding 266 songs.

Cheap Digital Cameras Online

Our love of digital cameras seems to be because the results are instant as film is no longer required to be processed. With numerous functions they do not need the complicated mechanical components of a standard film camera. The images are stored in a format that can be read by most modern printers, computers and even mobile phones for example. A series of ones and zeros is how all digital information is stored although the images are no different when viewed.

Digital Camera

These cameras still use lenses in much the same way that conventional cameras do. Using an electronic system, a lower specification digital camera does away with film although it is still capturing the light as with a traditional camera. Up market versions us a different system again with a charged couple device, or CCD, being the capture system which transfers the light into an electrical signal. Images captured in what are considered to be the low-end cameras are using a CMOS device which competes directly with the CCD of the high-end variants.

The price has been depreciating recently and one of the main reasons for this is the introduction of CMOS image sensors; because CMOS sensors are less expensive and are easier to manufacture than CCD sensors. It would take an experienced digital camera enthusiast to see the difference between an images captured with a CMOS against the superior CCD system. There is no need to feel confused by the range and functions these cameras have if you are armed with a few basic facts which are provided in this article. From the point of view on having good quality photos, search for a high megapixel version as it will be worth it for the image you will capture with it; you may find a model that is being superseded shortly - available at a discount.

Unless your budget just won't stretch that far, don't buy a digital camera with only a digital zoom or you will find pictures that aren't very clear when you print them; it is much easier to take exactly the image you want with an optical zoom. Rechargeable batteries can be charged up to a thousand times and save money, do you need any other advice for why they are best? Most models come equipped with some sophisticated software that can create interesting shots; just like some of these here:

Picture frame effects
B/W image conversion
Image editing

If you're a photo freak, be sure that you have enough memory to take plenty of shots without worrying about storage. Digital storage has come down in price so buying gigabyte card will no longer require a loan but you shouldn't think of having anything less than this.

Unless you intend to use your camera for serious photography there isn't any need for a bulky very high specification version. Professional photographers may need heavy, bulky equipment but there is no requirement for a keen amateur to do so! I hope these few tips will help you choose a camera you enjoy using for a long time. The future of photography has moved on and digital cameras are that future with almost everyone carrying around one type or another every day!
